T-SHIRTS
Ordered T-shirts will be available at the registration area. Please order your T-shirt in advance - there will be no T-shirts on sale at the race.
MEDALS
All finishers within the time limit, will receive a medal on completion of the route. This medal will celebrate the ninth year of the event.
WATER POINTS
Refreshment stations will be available on the route and cyclists must pull off the road to enjoy a drink. Failure to halt may result in disqualification.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
Medical assistance will be provided by Medi-Clinic and ER 24 at the start, along the route and at the finish.
SERVICE VEHICLES
Service vehicles will accompany the cyclists in the 39KM and 97KM events and sweep vehicles will follow the last cyclist.

No licences are required for the 39 km race.
TIMING
The cost of the Timing Chips are R100 when purchased online and at the registration. Timing chips purchased online via the RaceTec website (www.racetec.co.za) can be collected at any event timed by RaceTec. The chip number will only be allocated when you collect the chip.
I D NUMBERS
The organisers of the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour require that the results contain the entrant's ID number for seeding purposes. If this number is not provided, they will not be seeded.
SUBSTITUTION OF NUMBERS, CHANGING OF DISTANCES, AND LATE
ENTRIES
No cyclist may cycle on another person's number. If you are unable to cycle, someone may take your place with a letter of authorisation from you. Your entry fee will not be refunded and the substitute participant will be required to pay a fee of R100. Distance changes will be treated as a substitution. Late entries will incur an additional R100 administrative cost. The organisers do not take any responsibility for changes or substitutions not done in time.
HOW DO I KNOW WHETHER I AM REGISTERED?
Your name will be listed on the web site as soon as it is added to the database. Online entries will automatically receive confirmation on payment. E-mail confirmation will be sent to all participants provided they have correctly supplied their e-mail address on the entry form.
PRIZE GIVING
The official race prize giving is at 13:00. Attendance is required by all cyclists who have won either prize money or individual races. No trophies or prize money will be handed to winners before the prize giving. You will forfeit the prize money and/or trophy if you are not present at the prize giving. For the Elite cyclists (both men and ladies) the first three in the overall men and overall ladies categories will be required to be part of the official media prize giving within 30 minutes after the ladies race has been completed. Trophy handover and prize monies will only be handed over at the official race prize giving according to UCI regulations.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. All participants are deemed to have acquainted themselves with the rules and regulations and are bound by them. Cyclists must, at all times, obey the instructions of the traffic officers and marshals and comply strictly with the rules of the road, unless authorised to the contrary by a traffic officer or marshal. Failure to comply with the rules may lead to disqualification.
2. Helmets - the rule "no helmet - no ride" applies. An approved helmet must be worn at all times during the course of the race.
3. Any conventional two-wheel bicycle may be used, including a tandem. However, no bicycle is permitted to have unconventional handlebars, including triathlon bars, aero bars, clip-ons, prayer bars, crow bars and Spinachi bars are forbidden.
4. Seconding - no cyclist may be seconded during the course of the race, other than with the prior authority of the organisers. Any persons receiving seconding from any person, other than a race official at a recognised watering table, may in the discretion of the organisers, be disqualified, unless prior permission has been obtained. No cyclist is permitted to receive or hand food or drink to another participant other than when both parties are stationary.
5. Finishing time - participants have until the stated cutt-off times to finish their event. Any participant finishing outside of these limits will not receive an official time, nor will they be entitled to receive any medals or other promotional items available to participants.
6. Age limits - the 97km open event is available to any person over the age of 12 years. The 39km event is open to any participant over the age of 10 years.
7. The route - a map of the route is contained in this brochure. It is the responsibility of each participant to familiarise themselves with the route. Marshals will be on hand to direct cyclists but these marshals will be removed from the route during the course of the day as time progresses. Back markers should therefore be aware of the fact that, if they are outside the time limits set by the race organisers in their discretion, marshals may not be available to direct cyclists.
8. Weather - the race will take place regardless of weather and will only be cancelled or redirected by the race organisers for safety reasons. Should the race for any reason not be held or should it be re-routed, entry fees will not be refunded.
9. Seeding and starting times - Entries will be seeded according to national seeding index. Those riders holding race licences issued by Cycling South Africa will start together. The balance of the riders will start after the registered riders. Full details of the start times will be given to participants upon registration. Tandem cyclists will start as a separate batch, which will include both mixed and open tandems.
10. Race organisers discretion - the race organisers have complete discretion in deciding whether to accept the entry of a participant. The organisers reserve the right to refuse the entry of any rider should they so decide. All race results will be in the hands of the race organisers whose decision will be final, there being no right of appeal.
